How can it be?
This past weekend marked our first son’s 2nd birthday. How can two years have passed already?! It continues to amaze me every day how quickly time flies by the older I get. And I’m trying desperately to soak up every moment of my boys’ lives before they grow up and start their own little families.
It’s so awe inspiring to see how much our lives have changed in such a short amount of time. It was only three years ago my husband and I were celebrating our 4th Christmas together and wondering if we would ever have children of our own. Now as I type this my [not so] little guy is sleeping in his room and my even littler man is snuggling with his daddy. I cannot say enough how amazingly blessed we are and how much God has poured out his love on us. But enough about us, this weekend we celebrated our first little miracle babe, and we had a blast!
Samuel’s Special Day
Samuel’s birthday was Saturday, so Friday night after he went to bed I went to work preparing. I hung streamers over his bedroom door, blew up balloons and scattered them across the living room floor, and set out his gift with a huge bow and cards from us and his brother. I was so excited to make his day special!
When he woke up in the morning, he loved his surprise! I plan to make the decorating a tradition for our kids. Last year I bought the book, “Happy Birthday To You!” by Dr. Seuss and decided that reading this book each year together would be another fun tradition. So we read his special story and got ourselves ready to go. Then we all went out for birthday donuts at Krispy Kreme!
Samuel was so enthralled with watching the donuts be made that he didn’t even care about actually eating his! After donuts we went and walked around the mall for awhile before both the boys started getting really sleepy. We headed home so they could nap before his party.
We didn’t get many pictures throughout the day because we were intentional about putting down the devices and being present with our boy. But thanks to my awesome sister, who’s a photographer, we have lots of great pics from the party!
The Birthday Party
In the afternoon, we had our family over for cake and Samuel got to open his gifts from them. This was the first year he actually was excited to open his gifts and I had so much fun watching him! He got some pretty cool new toys and we all just spent time together.
Best Day Ever
We had planned to go out for dinner but by the time everyone left and we got things cleaned up from the party, it was getting close to the boys’ bedtime and I just didn’t really feel like going out again, so instead we ordered take out and enjoyed a nice quiet night in together as a family.
Birthday’s are one of my favorite days to celebrate my boys because I just love making their days as magical and special as they are to me! Samuel got to wear his special birthday button all day and lots of people, even complete strangers, stopped to wish him a happy birthday. We all had so much fun celebrating him and reminding him just how much he means to us!
Another fun little tradition I decided to start this year is the birthday interview. I look forward to seeing how his answers change over the years and having these to look back on and maybe get a good chuckle.
Happy Birthday, Sammy man!! We love you! <3
